Reflective Narrative
In RSCH 294, I received training from professional researchers with the purpose of fostering an interest in graduate school and successfully completing our investigative project for the Anthology of Hispanic Testimonials. In this class I learned the essential strategies for conducting academic research, which shares many similarities with professional research. In addition, the workshops and panels of students, teachers, and professionals motivated me to pursue a PhD in Spanish linguistics. Another aspect that I liked about this class was the interaction with students from other majors who are interested in contributing knowledge to their fields of study. In each class, the students were friendly and committed to their research. During the same period of time, I worked with my partner Linda Heredia and Dr. Fernandez to collect, edit and improve the nine testimonials from my classmates of the SPAN 300 class. My favorite part of the research class was the symposium, where my partner and I had the opportunity to present the work professionally to the academic and professional community. Presenting the Anthology of Hispanic Testimonials was a great challenge since we wanted to reflect the value and hard work of our classmates. In addition, our main objective was to give a voice to the voiceless who entrusted us with their life stories to present them to the community. On a personal level, the CSUMB 2019 Symposium was a challenge because I had to communicate effectively in English and Spanish in a limited space of time. Fortunately, my partner, I, and Dr. Fernandez successfully completed this great research project that left its mark on my academic and personal life. This class is related to SPAN 330 and WLC 400 since in both of them we presented a research paper.
